Visualization Board

The other day I was cleaning out a cabinet and came across a Visualization Board that I had created on September 30, 2006. I create two Visualization Boards. One dated on the day I created it and the other was dated five years in the future about where I wanted to be in 2011.

This was the first time that I thought about where I was and what I wanted to achieve in 5 years. At the time, I had only ever thought about my five year plan when I was asked about it in job interviews. I realize now, that I was only focused on my career and nothing else.

I was so out of balance.

The Visualization Board was just words and had no pictures. Of course, it was in the shape of a flower. For those of you who know me, you’ll know how much I enjoy the pretty things in life and flowers is a big part of that. I wrote out where I was on that day in all areas of my life in each petal.

I covered all areas of my life, including health, relationship, business, travel, personal development, etc.

Then, on a separate sheet, I wrote out where I wanted to be in five years. That brought me to September 30, 2011. (As an aside, I remember thinking that 2011 was SO FARRRRR away. Funny, how quickly the time goes by, isn’t it?)

At the time that I created this Board, I was single and feverishly dating. I had been single for years and was wondering if I’d ever meet the man of my dreams.

In the career petal of the 2006 board, I entered “Learning & Organizational Development Specialist” and under it wrote “Happy ?” Looking back, I can clearly see how I was not fulfilled in the role.

For “Relationship” in 2011 I wrote:

“I am in a healthy, loving and mutually fulfilling relationship with my best friend. I am so excited to have this man in my life.”

For “Career” in 2011 I wrote:

“I am passionate about my work. I am self-employed and successful.”

Are you wondering how much of what I wanted came to fruition?

Just over a year after writing what I wanted, I met Peter. In September of 2011, he asked me to marry him. (We are about to celebrate our seventh wedding anniversary.)

So, I achieved this goal and I’ve never been happier in a relationship.

In February 2011, I started working with my first business mentor and my business finally became successful. By September of 2011 I had 16 clients and was consulting with a large organization in Toronto.

I also achieved this goal and I’m delighted to do what I love every single day.

As I look at the Board today, I can easily see how many of my goals I achieved and am happy with where I am in my life and business.

This is such a great exercise that I give it to my clients to work through. It takes a bit of time and concentration to sit down and examine where you are today and then dream about where you want to be in five years.

Once again, I’m thinking that February 2024 is SO FARRR away and yet, if you think about it, the last five years went by so quickly and so will the next five years. So, take some time today to figure what you want and then let go and it will happen.

Why do I tell you this? Because, I’ve watched how quickly this works and I would love you to see how when you focus your energy on what you want, you will create the life of your dreams.
