My favourite saying that we teach in the Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) training, is
How you do anything, is how you do everything.
This is because you have strategies that are running in your neurology that once triggered run quickly and deeply in your unconscious mind.
Today, I’m going to apply this wisdom to my experience at the Smashing Nines Golfing Event hosted by Far Samji, Canada’s five-time Long Drive Champion.
I wrote about my first experience with golf last year in my September Blog. This was my first experience of really, and I mean really, stepping out of my comfort zone. I loved it so much, I’m going twice this summer.
I’ve been enthusiastic about my experience golfing at the June 21st Smashing Nines event and getting excited about the July 29th event in just two weeks. I’ve been enjoying telling every female entrepreneur I know about this event and inviting them to join me.
Here’s what I’ve noticed.
The responses are quite definite. They are either a strong yes and leaning in to find out more about this event or a strong no and leaning way out.
Of course, I love to dig deeper and uncover the reasons for every response. Hey, it’s what I do in life and business. You guessed it, it’s one of my strategies.
With these strong responses are strong beliefs, right?
If I were to invite you - oh, I am, by the way - what is your response?
Do you lean in or as far away as you can get?
If you lean in, is it because you love golfing and want to connect with some amazing women in a beautiful setting? Then join us. The event is on July 29th.
Now, if you’re leaning way out, let’s go deeper on this. What if this applies to your business? As I stated above, “how you do anything, is how you do everything”.
So, if you’re available and live near Piper’s Heath and you’re hearing a resounding “NO way in the world” in your head, where else in your business or life for that matter are you leaning away?
Perhaps hearing about my biggest fears of attending, this will help you see what’s going on for you.
What will people think of my lack of golfing ability?
What will they say?
What if I make a fool of myself?
What if I lose my golf ball?
What if I can’t hit the ball at all?
What if I look like an idiot?
What if I hurt myself?
These were just some of the thoughts I had before attending the first event. Here is what actually happened:
Everyone I met was encouraging and supportive, they were more concerned about playing the game
They gave me tips and suggestions to improve
They told me that they could see improvement in every single swing I made
Well, I lost my golf ball in the pond, and everyone in my group held their hand out offering me another ball
That happened too, they all gave me great tips to help me hit the ball
We were so focused on fun and connecting, I didn’t have time to think about how I looked
My muscles were sore the next day which tells me I need to get out there more often
When I faced my fears and leaned in, I got out of my comfort zone and met some incredible women. I had fun and I feel part of this community.
I choose to lean in and challenge myself every day in both my life and my business. Do you?
Join me at the Smashing Nines event on July 29th at Pipers Heath. Let’s have some fun.
